The opportunity

We are seeking a research assistant to join TEVA’s growing speciality R&D, antibody discovery program in Sydney, Australia. You would join the Antibody Generation team in a laboratory-based role to conduct R&D on therapeutic antibody discovery projects with a focus on single B cell screening workflows, employing antibody sequencing and screening techniques.

How you’ll spend your day

This is a hands-on laboratory-based role covering the following responsibilities:

  • Molecular Biology

  • Generation of DNA for immunisations and screening

  • Recovering heavy and light chain sequences from B cells using RNA/DNA extraction, cDNA synthesis and polymerase chain reaction (PCR)

  • Amplification and purification of DNA

  • Cloning into expression vectors

  • Cell culture and maintenance of mammalian cell lines

  • Including transient DNA transfection

  • Characterisation of antibodies

  • Antibody purification from serum or cell culture supernatant

  • Binding assays using flow cytometry, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and/or surface plasmon resonance (SPR) assays

Your experience and qualifications

  • A BSc (Hons) in life sciences with emphasis on molecular biology

  • Knowledge and understanding of general molecular biology techniques required

  • Proficiency in RNA/DNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, PCR, DNA sequencing, cloning and vector design

  • Familiar with mammalian cell culture techniques

  • Previous experience with flow cytometry, ELISA and/or SPR techniques will be highly regarded

  • Excellent attention to detail, good communication, documentation skills and ability to multi-task

  • Keen interest in learning new technology and an imagination for practical application will be highly valued

  • Team player with flexible approach to work and commitment to continuous development
