The opportunity

This position is responsible for the leading of a team and its activities supporting production equipment maintenance, specifically in troubleshooting complex systems, resolving the issues, identifying root causes of repeat issues and identifying opportunities for increasing equipment uptime, efficiency and throughput. The position ensures technicians have the tools, resources and training needed to support production equipment in compliance with all regulatory requirements, company policies and site procedures. The position includes supervision of calibration/metrology. It may also support multi-disciplined teams to develop the requirements for needed capital equipment, support the acquisition process, and lead the installation effort on site.

How you’ll spend your day

All areas of responsibility listed below are essential to the satisfactory performance of this position by any incumbents with reasonable accommodation if necessary. Any non-essential functions are assumed to be included in other related duties or assignments.

· Responsible for the daily management and development of direct reports to include recruitment and training, performance management and appraisals, scheduling of staff to meet Production plans, and addressing employee issues or concerns.

· Accountable for the overall performance and results of the Equipment Maintenance team.

· Responsible for overseeing scheduled and unscheduled equipment maintenance needs such regular maintenance, troubleshooting, resolving breakdowns and ensuring that equipment downtime is minimal.

· Responsible for managing and reporting site metrics related to equipment.

· Responsible for providing technical expertise and hands on machine intervention and project support as needed including interfacing with Engineering, vendors and contractors, and participating in the design and detailed engineering of new equipment and equipment modifications.

· Responsible for evaluating work in progress and resolving production, quality, equipment and other issues by working with appropriate departments and making real time decisions in response to unexpected events.

· Responsible for writing, reviewing and/or approving Standard Operating Procedures, Work Instructions, etc. required to operate in appropriate area.

· Responsible for leading and assisting with investigations into anomalies and results that do not meet expected results.

· Responsible for developing equipment service and project timelines based on input from end users as well as suppliers, then manages work and projects to meet established schedules.

· Responsible for soliciting and evaluating proposals from equipment vendors for equipment parts and service.

· Responsible for working with relevant stakeholders/departments to develop and lead an equipment reliability program.

· Responsible for investigating equipment performance and determining solutions.

· Responsible for supporting the qualification of new and modified equipment.

· Responsible for troubleshooting machine controls, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

· Responsible for completing training requirements and maintaining compliance with all assignments.

· Responsible for maintaining work areas and performing job functions in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with company policies and procedures, Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP’s), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Batch Record instructions.

· Responsible for performing additional related duties as assigned.

Your experience and qualifications

Any equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience that fulfills the requirements of the position will be considered.

Education/Certification/Experience:

· Requires Bachelor’s of Science degree with a minimum of 7 years relevant progressive experience in mechanical maintenance and/or applied engineering.

· Requires a minimum of 3 years’ supervisory/management experience.

· Requires experience with and understanding of equipment controls, troubleshooting of machine systems and the installation and ongoing support of production equipment.

· Experience in a manufacturing environment within pharmaceutical, medical device or nutraceutical industries is preferred.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

· Ability to interact positively, collaborate with subordinates, co-workers and management to motivate, influence, and lead others with or without direct supervisor authority.

· Computer proficiency with comprehensive working knowledge of MS Office products and systems such as SAP, Oracle, TrackWise and other computer relational databases.

· Detail oriented with ability analyze information, create metrics and articulate the link to business needs/objectives.

· Interact positively and collaborate with co-workers, management and external partners.

· Detailed knowledge and experience with change control and applicable qualification and validation processes.

· Ability to work in a team environment through conflict resolution and negotiations.

· Communicate effectively with strong written and oral communication and technical writing skills.

· Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment procedures and systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Constant:

· Sitting for extended periods of time at work station or mobile equipment.

Frequent:

· Using fingers to perform activities such as picking, pinching or typing.

· Standing for extended periods of time at work station or equipment.

Occasional:

· Walking to move short distances quickly and frequently

· Climbing – use of feet, legs, hands and/or arms to ascend or descend (for non-office)

· Stooping, Kneeling and/or Crouching – bending body, spine and/or legs (for non-office)

· Twisting/Reaching – turning at waist and extending hands and/or arms in any direction

· Grasping – applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm

· Repetitive Motions (frequent motions of the wrists, hands and/or fingers)

· Lifting – raising from lower to upper and/or moving objects horizontally up to 50 lbs.

Visual Acuity:

· Close visual acuity to perform activities such as computer work, preparing and analyzing data, extensive reading, visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines (including inspection), using measurement devices and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at a distance close to the eyes.
